Overview

Short-term visa to Hungary (Visa C, which grants the right to stay for a period of six months for a maximum of 90 calendar days in the country of travel / Schengen zone)

A visa is only a preliminary permission for entry, which does not automatically authorize its bearer to enter the country. The traveller may be requested to provide proof of the conditions of his entry and stay in Hungary and in case of non-compliance, travellers may be returned from the border.

Applicants are required to provide biometric identifiers, such as their photograph and, above 12 years of age, ten fingerprints. Applicants who already provided fingerprints of acceptable quality within the past 59 months are exempt from this obligation.

Applications shall be submitted within 3 months, but no later than 15 days before the planned departure to the Schengen area. Decision on applications shall be taken within 15 calendar days of admission, unless the extension of this deadline becomes necessary due to missing documents or supplementary document submission.

If the person is not a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, a legal document confirming legitimate staying on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan (i.e. residence permit) has to be submitted. The legal document has to be valid at least 3 months after the return from Schengen Zone.

Visa fee is 90 EURO for citizens of countries which do NOT have a visa facilitation agreement with the European Union. For 6-12 years old children from countries which do NOT have a visa facilitation agreement with the European Union, the visa fee is 45 EURO.

Information for family members of EU/EEA/CH nationals

The Directive 2004/38/EC (Directive of the European Parliament and of the Council of 29 April 2004 on the right of citizens of the Union and their family members to move and reside freely within the territory of the Member States) extends the right to mobility within the territory of EU/EEA/CH to family members of EU/EEA/CH citizens too. Member States shall grant family members every facility to obtain the necessary visas, as long as the family member travels with or visits the EU/EEA/CH national.

Derogations from the general rules applying for family members

  • No visa fee can be charged.
  • Family members can lodge their application directly at the consulate without any costs. Where family members decide not to make use of their right to lodge their application directly at the consulate but to use the extra services, they should pay for these services
  • Third country family members of EU/EEA/CH nationals are entitled to apply for a C-EGT Schengen visa for stays of up to 90 days (in any 180-day period).
  • The visas must be issued as soon as possible.

Appeal procedure

If the visa is refused, annulled or revoked, the applicant has the right to appeal. Appeals can be submitted by the applicant or by a person authorized by the applicant at the Hungarian Consulate within 8 days after receiving the refusal; and 3 days within the date of receiving the decision for the annulment or revocation of a visa. The Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade decides on the appeal within 15 days, and on the appeals against the decision for the annulment or revocation of a visa within 5 days.

The fee of the appeal procedure is 160 EUR, which cannot be reimbursed, not even in the case of a positive decision.

The appeal decision may be subject to Administrative Court review.

In case of refusal a new application may be submitted at any time, and the visa fee has to be paid again.

Document requirements


1) The procedure of applying for visa for children:

  • Children need separate appointment time as adults.
  • A Separate application form, filled out correctly, with the photo pasted on it. All the following documents have to be put into the different file, as everybody has to bring;
  • In some fields in the application form it`s necessary to use parent`s information, who is responsible for the child during the trip. For example, if the child doesn`t have his own foreign passport, it`s necessary to use parent`s passport`s information, filling in the application;
  • Children under 12 do not have to come to the to the Consular Department of Hungarian Embassy or Hungary visa Centre, as they don`t have to be fingerprinted (but need separate appointment time);
  • Visa fee for children under 12 years is free. From 12 – 35 euro;

2) The list of the documents necessary for children.

  • In case the child is traveling with one of the parents, the official permission from another parent, or another type of document, if relevant document is impossible in view of absence, or one of the parent's death.
  • A birth certificate, with the notary confirmed translation into English language.
    • if child has ID card please provide the copy.
    • It`s necessary to put into the file of the child, parents` ID cards copies, copies of the documents from the workplace, copies of the bank accounts of the parent.
    • If a child goes with one of the parents, it`s recommended to put another parent`s reference from the workplace as well.
    • For schoolchildren – the reference from school in English, or with the notary confirmed translation into English language.
  • If the child goes with the legal representative, there's need to present.
    • Letter of Attorney from the parents with the notary confirmed translation into English language.
    • The reference(s) from the workplace of the parent(s), and bank referance(s).
    • If the legal representative will cover the costs of the child, then he has to present his own reference from the workplace and bank reference, applying Letter of Attorney about covering the costs with the notary confirmed translation into English language.

3) The copies of the ticket, hotel confirmation, insurance (if there are some additional documents, concerning the trip), must be put in the list of the child`s documents.

Note:

  • The photo requirements are very strict. Please follow the following instructions accordingly.
  • You can also get photo according to exact specification clicked at BLS Centre.
  • Additional physical copy of photograph is required apart from uploading in online application.
  • Center head within frame and present full head from top of hair to bottom of chin.
  • The face should cover about 60-70 percent of the photo area.
  • The applicant's head, including both face and hair, should be shown from the crown of the head to the tip of the chin.
  • Please ensure both ears, neck, and shoulders are clearly visible.
  • The head must be centered within the frame.
  • Photo should present full face, front view, eyes open.
  • Background should be plain white colored without borders with contract colored clothes (not white clothes).
  • Photos with dark, busy, or patterned backgrounds will not be accepted.
  • No shadows on the face or on the background.

The photograph should be in colour and of the size of 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm for Visa.

  • The photo-print should be clear and with a continuous-tone quality.
  • It should have full face, front view, eyes open.
  • Photo should present full head from top of hair to bottom of chin.
  • Center head within frame.
  • The background should be a plain white or off-white.
  • There should not be any distracting shadows on the face or on the background.
  • Head coverings are not permitted except for religious reasons, but the facial features from bottom of chin to top of forehead and both edges of the face must be clearly shown.
  • The expression on the face should look natural.
